Peggy Clark Lumpkins has been a painter all her life. She moved to Maine in 1987 and built a huge garden to grow her flora subjects in. Half her work are flowers. both garden and wild, and the other half are Mainescapes. A lot of her work features clouds. She works in the slow process of oil glazes, which give her depth and rich colors.
The natural world is my inspiration. Every time I go on a walk paintings fall into my head, and that is what I am painting. I will sketch these out fast and shoot a lot of photos to work from, but mostly I am working from that moment the painting landed in my head. I stretch these beautiful moments into months of transparent glazes in my studio, watching the image fill out over time.
